The “Jesus Only” Heresy

“Jesus Only” is a cult movement, which seeks to infiltrate all sects of Christendom, in order to spread heresy (a.k.a. false teaching). Their main message is that those who have been baptized in the Name of the Trinity must undergo rebaptism in Jesus’ name only. They build their illogical dogma on Acts 2:38.

Peter said to them, “Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

The above verse seems “water tight” for their argument, until one remembers the words of Jesus Himself, found in Matthew 28:18-20.

Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Using basic logic, one can see that Peter’s command to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ is fulfilled when one is baptized according to Jesus’ prescription in the Name of the Trinity—Father, Son & Holy Spirit. The particular is contained in the whole. If at one time I say, “My name is Samuel Nathan Kean,” and in the next breath I turn to another and say, “My name is Sam Kean,” have I contradicted myself in any way? No, obviously not. My first statement is fuller than the second, but the second statement is clearly contained in the first. But, instead of recognizing this most basic & simple logic, the Jesus Only cult would rather deny the Trinity altogether. They throw out the baby with the bath water.

Not only is the message of the Jesus Only cult a demonically empowered deception, it is an outright departure from the Apostles’ teachings found in the New Testament. The Personhood (full humanity) & full Deity of Jesus have been attacked ever since the first Century A.D. Throughout history, many have asserted that either Jesus is less than eternal and co-equal to the Father and Spirit; or, He is not in some form or fashion a man. Yet others have diminished Jesus—as well as the Spirit—by believing there is no Trinity (Three Divine Persons in one Triune Godhead). That group of staunch monotheists think there is no distinction of Divine Persons (Trinity), but that, the Father, Son & Spirit are mere manifestations of God. Yet, many passages in the Bible reveal the Father talking to the Son and vice versa, or the Spirit directing, compelling and/or resting upon Jesus. That which shows distinction and difference at the same time cannot possibly be the same thing without distinction.

Bible Verses which Defeat Non-Trinitarian Errors:

Titus 2:13 “waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ,” (notice title ‘God & Savior’)

John 20:28 “Thomas answered and said to Him, “My Lord and my God!”

1 John 5:20 “And we know that the Son of God has come, and has given us understanding so that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.”

Hebrews 1:2, 8 “in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world…. But unto the Son [the Father] says, Your throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of your kingdom.”

John 17:5 “And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.”

John 5:26 “For just as the Father has life in Himself, even so He gave to the Son also to have life in Himself;”

Messiah is Divine and Eternal – Ps. 2:12; Isa. 7:14; 9:6; Mic. 5:2; Zechariah 12:10

God is the Son (pre-existent, Jesus Christ, The Messiah) — Prov. 30:4; John 1:1, 18; 20:28; Romans 9:5; Titus 2:13; Hebrews 1:8; 1 John 5:20

The Father, Son, and Spirit are not the same Person but are distinct — Matt. 3:13-17; 2 Cor. 13:14; Eph. 2:18

The Father, Son, and Spirit are the same Essence (ousia) – John 10:30; John 14:16

The Father, Son, and Spirit are coequal in glory — Matt. 28:19; 2 Cor 13:14; Heb. 1:3; 1 Cor. 12:4-6; Eph. 4:4-6

Tongues Equated to Receiving the Holy Ghost

Also, the Jesus Only cult assert that one must speak in tongues after said re-baptism, in order to prove one has “received the holy ghost.” The overt pressure which they place on an individual concerning this can only be described as ‘cult-like.’ However, in the Scriptures, one reads that receiving the Holy Spirit is a gift, which does not always manifest in tongues: a sign granted by the Spirit when there are those present who need to hear the Good News of Jesus in their own language. Rather than treating tongues as “proof” to others that one has been saved, THE test of one’s having received the gift of the (indwelling) Spirit [a.k.a. Baptism into the Body of Christ Jesus by the Spirit] is the witness of the Spirit (Romans 8:16) and the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5), which—even more than tongues—shows itself by unashamed proclamation of “Jesus Christ and Him crucified.” This is called boldness. It is what all the Apostles displayed when “filled with the Spirit.”

For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free, and we were all made to drink of one Spirit. (1 Corinthians 12:13)

Moreover, Paul writes in Romans 10:9

if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved

The Emaciated & Very Bony Fish: #GLS16 — Day 1

Eat the fish; spit out the bones,” forever rings in my ears, as a result of those who taught me how to navigate a world filled with errors that masquerade the Truth of Jesus.

Willow Creek’s Global Leadership Summit is, well, globalist and widely ecumenical (a.k.a. apostate; compromised) in nature. And all that ecumenical “warm & fuzziness” cannot possibly withstand the lure of compromising truth with error. I expected some; I hoped the meat might outweigh the skeleton. My theological spitune sat at the ready. However, what I encountered was nothing short of appalling to this essentialist, conservative evangelical, non-denominational Christian.

Please don’t misunderstand. There were some really biblically rich, Spirit-filled and powerful statements by a scarce few speakers; and their practical points of leading people (at least in a corporate world) were insightful. Also, despite my tough tweeting—the #GLSatGrace gave me last years (2015) conference DVD, Team Edition. Perhaps it was their way of overcoming with good what they may perceive as evil. Or, maybe my GLS16 satellite location admin merely counted the number of my tweet hashtags & didn’t read my tweets’ meaning. Benefit of the doubt, right? Right. I did receive it with saying thanks, by the way. I figured.

if they want to bring high visibility and attention to my tough questions & constructive criticism, that’s their choice.’

Still, the fish was emaciated and very bony. Between many bouts of inner hacking & gagging, I repeatedly cried out in my spirit, “What are you doing to my Jesus?”

At the start, I set aside that Bill Hybels began by praying to “God” with an aire of ambiguity and ended without “in Jesus’ Name,” even more ambiguous and politically correct. How’s that for rising up in the global context? It got worse from there.

Immediately, Bill Hybels challenged the audience to be “humble,” and so, learn. My cult radar went on red alert. Why? Rhetoric training teaches this was GLS16’s strategicaly and promptly setting the conference ethos that ‘anyone who disagrees with the subject matter presented is proud.’

Hybels’ rhetorical appeal was an emotional one ‘straight out of the gates’ to ostracize critical thinking and invoke the audience to fall into something just short of a zombie trance, roused and hungered only by the voice of objection. It’s a cult tactic. No thinking; just embibe, memorize & spread the brand.

The globalist heresies were thick and deep, hidden in plain sight.

Let’s address those in turn.

No Jesus’ Name Policy

After speaking, Mr. Hybels introduced a video featuring leadership personnell within the United States Air Force. At a conspicuous point, the highlighted officer states something to the effect that he’s ok with the Air Force’s policy of not talking about his Christian faith. His Reason? He prefers to quit talking so much about faith and just “live it out.” Result? The audience erupts in applause and agreement to my horror, because:

Besides this, refusing to speak Jesus’ Name or agreeing to not speak His Name is to deny Jesus. Here’s what He has to say about that:

…but whoever denies me before men, I also will deny before my Father who is in heaven. –Jesus (Matthew 10:33)

The True Legacy of Christian Leaders & the Difference Between Church and Business

Apparently, it is possible for GLS16 and the above-mentiond Airman to fulfill the Great Commission wihout “preach[ing] the Gospel to all creation,” or “warning every man and teaching every man…” like Jesus and Apostle Paul commanded/exemplified (Matthew 28:19-20; Mark 16:15; Colossians 1:28). How that can be a proper legacy for a Christian leader is mysterious indeed. But, then again, Mr. Hybels taught that we can change our “energy chart” and ask God to correct our life’s narrative. Perhaps Mr. Hybels will take his own advice. I pray so.

Contrary to what Mr. Hybels and the USAF believe, Jesus & The Apostles assert that people can & must remember both what you teach them AND how they feel around you. At times Jesus & The Apostles were lions in the face of religious counterfeits, and they suffered or died for it. But also, they were gentle as new mothers among those who had heard, considered and believed their Good News, which is the Church’s main objective and only legacy.

Melinda Gates: Christianity’s Frenemy

Next, Melinda Gates was interviewed by Bill Hybels. The only trouble is Melinda was loosely presented as a Catholic Christian leader with several opaque references to her background, “conservative” morals & principles and beliefs. Leaving aside the apostacy and aggressive ecumenism (acquisition) of Roman Catholicism, there is sufficient evidence showing Mrs. Gates and the Gates Foundation are anything but friendly to the principles and people of genuine Christianity. Warren Buffett—whom Mrs. Gates referenced and quoted more than a few times—is certainly no poster child for Christian stalwarts either.

Bill Hybels’ New Brand of Leadership: World Vision & Hamas?

For what seemed like an eternity, Bill Hybels put in an unashamed plug for World Vision. I was hoping for expression of shame for the following reason:

Conclusion

Does GLS16 bring in big names? Yes. Are their team/management coaching talks valuable to a business leader? Absolutley. Is the Church a business? No. THE Leader, the Great Commission, operation & legacy of the Church are actually far different from the principles & practices of globalist (religious, corporate / political) elites. Their definition of humility is “no distinction; no dissent.” Their type of ‘rising up’ in today’s global context makes sure Jesus is minimized, diluted, redefined and denied until it’s ok to live out a “Christianity” that has no message. Just do good works in the name of good, and lose your soul by denying Him that way. By no means suffer for Him in this. In fact, “follow the money,” especially if it leads to advertisements, obligations to & entanglements with frenemies of genuine Christians everywhere; or better yet… just shamelessly and unaccountably solicit & use the money of Christians—who wish to bless the wartorn, poor and needy—to fund a known Islamic terrorist organization.

Sorry GLS16, I won’t be returning for Day 2. You understand… right?

Colossians: Jesus is Better than Special Knowledge, Part 2

“Jesus is better than special knowledge” is the theme of the Letter to the Colossians. Already—in part 1 (ch. 1:1-20)—the Apostle Paul has introduced himself as one who has been commissioned by Jesus Christ, according to the will of God, the Father. As such, Paul had a significant spiritual gifting, which enabled him to powerfully and truthfully address the needs of the Gentile (non-Hebrew ethinicity) churches.

The new church of believers at ancient Colossae had need for defending themselves against a malicious, esoteric heresy called gnosticism, which sees Jesus as a mere heavenly messenger. Believers today need this defense as well:

This heretical view is still in existence today, both in various secretive cults and in such pop religious movements as astrology or alchemy.

The Masonic movement has been referred to as a Gnostic movement. The popular book The Da Vinci Code (2003, Doubleday) by Dan Brown promotes Gnostic ideas as it attempts to undermine orthodox Christianity. (Theopedia, Gnosticism)

For these reasons, the Apostle Paul was inspired by God to write defenses of the Christian faith (against gnosticism) in the Letter to the Colossians; and the letter is preserved for our learning and safety.

Within chapter 1, one reads Paul’s commendation of the believers for their mutual faith and love—a faith and love shared by many around the world. They are not alone. Secondly, Paul shares the content of the prayers he and his ministry companions often pray for the Colossians amid their fight against heresy and temptations. We do well to pray these prayers for one another today. Thirdly, Paul spends time exalting the Lord Jesus Christ in His rightful place of:

  • The Image of the Invisible God
  • Authority over all things, seen and unseen, especially angels (good and bad)
  • Creator and Maintainer of all things
  • The Head of the Church
  • The One “first” and preeminent in all things, especially a resurrection to glorification
  • The Means of Reconciliation of all things to God by making peace through the blood of His cross

At the end of what we know as chapter 1, Paul reminds the Colossian believers of what God has done for them:

1:21-23

  • You were alienated from God and were enemies to God through wicked works, but now you are reconciled to God in His (Jesus’) fleshly body through (His) death…
    • in order to to present you holy and blameless and above reproach before God
    • IF you continue in the faith, stable and steadfast, not shifting from the hope of the Gospel*

*Here is a noteworthy point the Apostle makes:: IF one who has heard and believed the Gospel of Jesus should shift from the hope of the Gospel (which is exclusively Jesus), and so, accepts esoteric or gnostic teachings, then that one can no longer be counted as reconciled to God through Christ. To accept such pluralistic falsehood is to deny Christ. Esoteric study loves to collect “theosophic” ideas from nearly all religions—what those religions hold in common about “god.” That perhaps sounds wise, but biblicist Christianity holds Jesus preeminently and exclusively as the only true God in Flesh, and that, all other religions are the result of demonic teachings propagated by demonically influenced men (1 Timothy 4:1). The idea that humanity can be unified under one world-wide religion that combines all religions into one is nothing less than the scheme of devils.

1:24-29

The Apostle Paul was no stranger for toil and struggle in ministering defenses and support to the churches. In these verses, Paul states :”for this [their maturity in Christ], I toil, struggling….” Paul assures the Colossian believers that he rejoices in the sufferings he has undergone for their sakes (in regards to this heresy and similar things). Paul’s work was and is:

  • A completion of what is lacking in the afflictions of Christ for the sake of Christ’s body, the Church.
    • because Paul became a minister of that body, according to a stewardship / dispensation given to him by God…
      • for the purpose of making the Word of God fully known concerning…
        • the mystery (of the body of Christ, the Church), which was hidden for ages but is now revealed to believers…
          • who are the ones God chose to reveal how great (among the Gentiles) are the glorious riches of this mystery:
            • being, “Christ in you, the Hope of Glory”
  • A proclamation of Jesus, accomplished by warning everyone and teaching everyone WITH ALL WISDOM…
    • so that, Paul and company may present everyone to God as mature in Christ.

Every Christian minister would do well to note Paul’s inspired goal and description of ministry. The reason he endured toil and struggle against heresies and false teachers within the churches was precisely this: “to present everyone mature in Christ.” Keep that one phrase as the goal of ministry. If you agree to the call of God as a minister, then it is no bed of roses, but Paul admits he is able to toil and struggle because he does so with, “all [Jesus’] energy that [Jesus] powerfully works within me.”

Christ in you is the Hope of Glory for every believer!

Christ in you is the energizing power for every minister who is defending (warning) and supporting (teaching) the believers against (gnostic) heresy and other threats!

Colossians: Jesus is Better than Special Knowledge, Part 1

1:1

From a Roman prison cell, of all places, the Apostle Paul writes to the believers and “faithful brothers” (probably church leaders) at Colossae. Next to him sits Timothy, Paul’s partner in ministry even while in holding. Paul writes the letters to Ephesians and to Philemon at about the same time (A.D. 60-62). We know that, because in those letters Paul refers to himself as being in prison, and he also refers to Tychicus (the courier). Yet, neither of these letters refer to the outcome of Paul’s trial at Rome. So, from that inner evidence, one can more than safely say Colossians was written sometime from A.D. 60 – 62. The message God sends to the Colossians through his Apostle Paul is certainly one for our day. The theme of this letter to the Colossians (and to us) is:

JESUS IS BETTER THAN SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE (i.e. Gnosticism)

1:2

“Grace and Peace to you” is always the greeting Christians gave each other in those early days of Christianity. Whether in regions where Christianity was not being persecuted, or in the heat of Christian genocides, only the salutation of “grace and peace to you” would mean anything at all. The grace of God allows us to partake of the Divine nature amid a world that is entirely anti-God in heart. The peace of God is poured over those who trust the Almighty and All-knowing God completely, even those suffering for the name of Jesus Christ, as Paul knew very well. There are times when we forget about our need for and the availability of God’s grace and peace. It is always fitting to wish another Christian, “Grace and Peace (be multiplied) to you.”

1:3-8

The first paragraph of this letter is full of thanksgiving and joy. The Apostle Paul states he and his fellow ministers thank God for the Colossians when praying for them. Why?

  • Paul and company heard of the Colossians’ placing faith in Jesus as the Christ “the Messiah” as a result of hearing the Gospel from Epaphras (vv. 4, 7-8)
  • Paul and company heard of the Colossians’ love for all the saints (v. 4)
  • Paul and company knew of and rejoiced in the hope laid up for the Colossians in Heaven; implied: because of their faith. (v. 5)
  • Paul and company share joy with the Colossians that their faith in Christ is shared among many in the world and is growing! (vv. 6-7)

1:9-20

The second paragraph of this letter is a prayer for the Colossians and an exaltation of Jesus Christ, and this exaltation of the Lord Jesus sets the tone for the rest of the letter. The supremacy of Jesus Christ is the basis of the Colossians’ faith, yes even the Christian faith, against all distractions, deceptions or heresies. What a blessing from God to have these prayers recorded for our learning and use.

Paul prays: ‘We have not ceased to pray these things for you from the day we heard of your faith in Christ:: (v. 9-14)

  • To be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding
    • So that, you may walking in a manner worthy of the Lord
      • by being fully pleasing to Jesus
      • by bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God
  • To be strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might
    • For the purpose of having all endurance and patience with joy
      • resulting in giving thanks to the Father
        • WHO has qualified believers to share in the inheritance of the saints in light.
        • WHO has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son
          • in Whom (Jesus) we have redemption — the forgiveness of sins.

Paul Exalts Christ: (v. 5-20)

  • He is the image of the invisible God
  • He is the firstborn (lead and representative) of all creation, because:
    • By Him all things were created
      • in heaven and on earth
        • things visible and invisible
          • whether thrones, or dominions or rulers or authorities
    • He is before all things and in him all things hold together
    • He is the head of the body — the Church.
    • He is the beginning, the firstborn (resurrection to glory) from the dead
      • so that, in everything he might be preeminent
  • In Him all the fullness of the Godhead was pleased to dwell, so that through Him all things* would be reconciled^ to God.
    • *All things: whether on the earth or in heaven
    • ^Reconciled: by making peace by the blood of His cross

Exposing Chrislam

Chrislam — is the unification of Islam and Christianity a real agenda by global religious elites? We know that Judaism and Catholic Christianity have already “partnered.” Rhetorically, I ask, “who saw that coming?”… and I answer: the same people who warn about “Chrislam.”

On one side of the arguments, some say Chrislam is a figment of overactive imaginations… an unfounded conspiracy theory, if you will. Those who deny allegations of (in effect) promoting Chrislam resort to (in essence) defensively calling their opponents “quacks.”

The other side of the argumentation begins with allegations from conservative evangelicals, calling their opponents “apostates” and “blasphemers.” They offer evidence of the agenda to wed Christianity and Islam. I’d like to be on the side which lays out some evidence and let you weigh it for yourself.

Firstly, we are not discussing militant or apocalyptic Islam. These are breeds of Islam that stand apart from the sort of “diplomatic” and (ironically) “democracy-friendly” Islam, which first began to appear in the early 2000’s and then to assert itself in 2010 with the Arab Spring. This “westernized” and “academic” Islam seeks to present itself as a peaceful and cultured religion. Yet, those who are “by the book” Muslim accuse the political Islam of fakery; and there is much evidence that historical Islam does not philosophically match that of the “new (2010-present) Islam.” Nor can political Islam rationally explain the commands of the Qu’ran to brutally murder Christians and Jews and those who refuse to convert to Islam. Political Islam is just that—an Islam, which has been engineered within the past 1.5 to 2 decades to achieve certain religious/philosophical, international/economicalpolitical agendas, namely formation of a cohesive UfM [which happens to be fulfilling Bible Prophecy].

Political Islam is the brand of Islam which ecumenical Christianity seeks to wed.

Secondly, perverted ecumenism such as the Catholic/Muslim Summit, and more recently, the Wheaton debacle only give fuel to the Chrislam controversy. If religious elites want conservative evangelicals to quit accusing them, then perhaps they should cease putting proverbial fodder in the scrutiny cannons. For example, Rick Warren (and N.T. Wright, and Russell Moore) have come under great controversy within the past year, because they–ignoring warnings from Italian Evangelicals–went (on invitation by the Pope) to the Vatican to speak about marriage. Yes, the same “conservative marriage agenda” that Pope Francis shredded earlier this year by altering the moral line on homosexuality, the family and divorce after only about 2,000 yrs. of Christian teachings which prove otherwise. [see also Amoris Laetitia]

Part of Warren’s activity at the Vatican was to speak in front of Muslims (among other religious elites). Warren reportedly told those present that he believes in inter-faith projects instead of Inter-faith dialogue. Warren should simply say something like, ‘I will serve [Muslims] however I can, BUT I boldly preach the Gospel that Jesus of Nazareth is the Christ, the Son of God and the Only Way to the Father.’ (see also Christianity Today)

For other examples:

Thirdly, I submit personal experience. I am someone who likes a good investigation. Instead of believing someone else’s word, I go to the source or else study a plethora of evidence, or both. Where I can, I give the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise. I err on the side of grace. Earlier this year, such an opportunity came my way in the form of  interviewing Marian University’s career placement department for potential employees. One continually hears, “not all catholics are the same;” and I do know some catholics who are clearly (by every word of their testimony, as it matches the Scriptures) regenerated by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone. The fact that some catholics are truly saved is no testament to the doctrine and practice of the Roman Catholic Church, but rather, to the power of the Gospel.

Marian University’s order is Franciscan—one of the more notably “evangelical” branches of the ecclesiastical RCC, if there is such a self-contradictory thing. So, I seized the occasion; but sadly, I had to conscientiously turn down opportunities for making contacts in the “inter-faith” sector. Catholics are indeed inter-faith dialoging and partnering with Muslims and Buddhists and Hindus in the name of doing good and ‘good religion.’ Those at Marian feel it is the spiritually wise and mature thing to do. I, however, read the Apostle Paul from 2 Corinthians 6:14-16

14Do not be bound together with unbelievers; for what partnership have righteousness and lawlessness, or what fellowship has light with darkness? 15Or what harmony has Christ with Belial, or what has a believer in common with an unbeliever? 16Or what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God; just as God said, “I WILL DWELL IN THEM AND WALK AMONG THEM; AND I WILL BE THEIR GOD, AND THEY SHALL BE MY PEOPLE.

IN CONCLUSION:

I am what the religious elites of our day may call a conspiracist quack. I am crazy enough to weigh all of the evidence against what is being denied. I am also conscientious enough to read and prayerfully study the Bible for Divine illumination. What I have gained in that discipline is the same as many others—that God foretells through His prophets a time when Satan will deceive the leaders of religions to be of one nebulous, apostate religion and leaders of governments to be a one-world empire. That time is now.
